Through one-on-one coaching, workshops, and networking events, Mr. Washington has guided countless small business owners in navigating complex systems, developing strategic plans, and building sustainable partnerships. He spearheaded programs like the Green Lighting Black Lives Matter Youth Media Project and the MLK Dream Run Weekend Celebration, which connect communities of color to economic opportunities and professional development. Under his leadership, SDBA also serves as a bridge to grant funding for property improvement and acquisition, ensuring local businesses and residents remain rooted in historically significant neighborhoods.
In addition to his work with SDBA, Mr. Washington has contributed to public art and economic development projects, including chairing Prosper Portland’s Vanport 2 Development Design Committee and serving on the Historic Albina Advisory Board and the N/NE Housing Oversight Committee. His deep ties to N/NE Portland and commitment to culturally responsive leadership continue to make him a driving force for equitable growth and community prosperity.
Beyond his pastoral role, Pastor Hennessee brings extensive experience in public service, private business leadership, and education governance, including serving as a trustee for a private Christian college. A passionate advocate for social justice and youth development, he has collaborated with local law enforcement to reduce gang violence in Portland by over 50% since 2011. Known for his tireless mentorship, he supports emerging leaders in ministry, fosters connections across communities, and champions initiatives that dismantle barriers and promote equity. Pastor Hennessee is also a devoted father and grandfather, committed to leaving a legacy of compassion, community impact, and faith-driven leadership.
Prior to founding OAS, Sheila served as Office Manager for H&R Block Tax and Business Services and as Client Services Supervisor for Paychex Inc., where she honed her skills in client relations and operational efficiency. Her deep knowledge and dedication to supporting businesses make her an invaluable asset to the Soul District Business Association’s mission of fostering economic growth and sustainability.
A dedicated advocate for social and economic equity, Bryson actively contributes to initiatives that support BIPOC communities and promote community-led development. He serves as Chair of the Williams & Russell Project Working Group, driving efforts to restore opportunities for Portland’s displaced Black community, and sits on the Executive Leadership Advisory Committee for the I-5 Rose Quarter Project. As a consultant for the Soul District Business Association (SDBA), Bryson provides expert guidance on compliance, lease negotiations, and property acquisitions, while also leading educational sessions for small businesses. His commitment to equity and his broad legal expertise make him a vital asset to the SDBA and the communities it serves
Kerstin holds a Master’s degree in Economics from Portland State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Lewis & Clark College. Her dedication to community engagement and equity is reflected in her active involvement with initiatives that promote sustainable energy solutions and resilience. As a board member of the Soul District Business Association, Kerstin brings a unique combination of technical acumen, leadership expertise, and a passion for fostering equitable growth and opportunity.
From her early days as a realtor and construction project manager in Michigan to her transformative leadership as the first Executive Director of Portland Community Reinvestment Initiatives, Inc. (PCRI), Ms. Fitzpatrick has made a profound impact. At PCRI, she spearheaded initiatives like the Pathway 1000 Community Action Plan, a ten-year strategy to construct 1,000 affordable homes and address displacement in Portland’s Black community. Her efforts laid the foundation for the City’s “preference policy,” which continues to shape equitable housing development today. As an SDBA consultant, Ms. Fitzpatrick advises Black/BIPOC property owners on strategies to develop their properties, leveraging her expertise to drive economic empowerment and community resilience.
In addition to his consulting work, Sam has held numerous executive roles, including Managing Director and General Sales Manager, where he developed high-performance teams and implemented strategies to improve customer retention and operational efficiency. A dedicated community advocate, he has served on the boards of organizations such as Providence Hospital and Honoring Our Soldiers. Through his leadership and mentorship, Sam continues to contribute to the success of businesses and individuals, demonstrating a commitment to building stronger, more equitable communities.
